Sophomore Class

Keep Grades Up:

• Prioritize maintaining high grades and monitor your GPA to ensure you are on track for college goals.

Take the PSAT (October):

• Take the test to get familiar with the format (scores generally do not count for National Merit until Junior year).

 Start/Continue Your Resume:

• Deepen Extracurricular Involvement. Shift focus to 2-3 activities you are passionate about to build sustained commitment
• Consistently record all awards, honors, new volunteer hours, and specific accomplishments.

 Testing Preparation:

• Begin a light, consistent study plan through SAT Prep/Free Khan Academy online through CollegeBoard to improve scores.
• Use your PSAT score report to identify strengths and weaknesses.

Course Selection (11th Grade Courses) With Counselor:

• Review grades and plan courses for 11th grade, ensuring you are challenging yourself and fulfilling requirements.
• Challenge yourself by planning to enroll in the most rigorous courses you can handle (Honors, AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment). Determine if AP or Dual Enrollment options are right for your 11th-grade schedule.
• Review the criteria to confirm you are on track for honor society qualifications if interested.
• Consider and apply to Shared Time Votech Programs, if applicable.

Career & College Exploration:

• Explore Naviance platform and Self-Discovery Questionnaires for Careers and Colleges.
• Research careers: Identify required education and expected salaries.
• Start thinking about college/post-secondary: Create a list of colleges or careers that are interesting to you.
• Visit Colleges and College Fairs. Take virtual or in-person tours of local or targeted campuses.

Plan a Meaningful Summer:

• Secure a job, internship, significant volunteer position, or enroll in academic summer programs related to your interests.
