National Art Honor Society

The Kinnelon High School National Art Honor Society has been established for the purpose of recognizing and celebrating those students who have shown an interest in the making of art, who have an appreciation for the value of art and acknowledge the influences that visual arts have in our school, the community and today’s society.
Students who want to become a member of the KHS NAHS must have completed visual art classes for three of their four years in high school for seniors, and all three years for juniors. (This includes a minimum of a half year visual arts course per year. ) Exceptions for not having a visual art class during one of those mandated years will be reviewed based on individual student circumstances that prohibited that student from scheduling all three years of visual art courses.
Members must have Maintained a B or better average in all visual art classes, including this year. Annual dues of $20 will be collected from each member on two of the posted dates. Attendance is required at bi-weekly scheduled meetings to maintain membership and privileges.
National Business Honor Society

The National Business Honor Society (NBHS) recognizes the high school students and the high school business education programs. NHBS is a valuable addition to a college application.
Any junior or senior who has completed his/her third business course and has a 3.0 (overall) and 3.5 (business course) GPA is able to apply, get accepted, and inducted to the National Business Honor Society.
At the induction ceremony, the inductees receive a certificate, a NBHS pin, and a cord (that can be worn at their high school graduation ceremony).
The inductees are involved in charity donations to local charities.
National English Honor Society

The National English Honor Society (NEHS), founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, is the only international organization exclusively for secondary students and faculty who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments. Immediate benefits of affiliation include academic recognition, scholarship and award eligibility, and opportunities for networking with others who share enthusiasm for, and accomplishment in, the language arts. Juniors and seniors may apply for membership. To be eligible, students must have and maintain a 90 or above in their English courses.

To be eligible for the National Honor Society, students must maintain a 3.7 weighted or 3.5 unweighted GPA. They must show the qualities of character, leadership, scholarship and service. They must complete 20 hours of community service 10 of which must be in the Kinnelon community. They must be in good standing with KHS.
National Latin Honor Society

Mu Alpha Theta, Kinnelon High School's esteemed National Math Honor Society, is dedicated to fostering a love for mathematics and recognizing academic excellence. As a member, you'll have access to scholarships, awards, competitions, and math-related events. Our chapter provides peer support through tutoring opportunities, promoting scholarship, leadership, and the enjoyment of mathematics. Eligible candidates must meet specific criteria, including completing two years of college preparatory mathematics and maintaining a math grade point average of at least 3.25. Inducted members engage in service to the community, tutoring a minimum of ten hours per year. Membership dues support initiation fees and contest memberships, ensuring a vibrant and enriching experience for all members.
National Science Honor Society

The Kinnelon High School Chapter of Science National Honor Society was founded to recognize the achievements and contributions of students in science. Membership is an honor bestowed upon a student who has achieved success not only in the classroom but also in their contributions to the advancement of science, technology and society.
*Available to both juniors and seniors.
*A science grade overall of 3.5 is required.
National Social Studies Honor Society

To be eligible for National Social Studies Honor society this year, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a 3.4 in Social Studies. Students must be in attendance of KHS for at least one semester prior to being considered. Students must successfully complete at least one AP social studies course in grades 10 or 11. Students must register for a social studies elective in the applicant’s senior year.
National Spanish Honor Society

The Spanish Honor Society is an honor society for those in a secondary school setting for eligible students who have maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish or Portuguese for a minimum of three semesters and are in the 10th grade or higher. The definition of "honor grade” is left to the discretion of each chapter. It should be remembered that the SHH is an honor society for those students of high academic achievement. Therefore, since the rigor of a college prep class differs from an honors course the following grade averages are set in place:
Honors level students have to have a 90 average over 6 consecutive marking periods and CP students have to have a 95 average over 6 consecutive marking periods. All students have to continue taking Spanish until senior year to graduate with honor cords as long as a course is offered at their level. In addition, they have to be of good character and academic standing.
Our chapter, La Celestina has been involved for over 10 years in providing underprivileged families in the Paterson NJ area with gifts for the holiday season through the Dare to Be You family rehabilitation program. In addition, the SHS recently participated in our former student's youth program, Youth For Change NJ to help provide PPE and other necessary goods to families in need in Paterson.
Academically, the SHS provides tutoring for all levels of Spanish in the middle and high school setting.

Membership in the Kinnelon High School Tri-M Music Honor Society is an honor that recognizes students who excel in both musicianship and leadership within the school’s music community. As a member, students are expected to demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, musical achievement, and a passion for enriching the lives of others through music. Members participate in a range of activities, including performances, community service projects, and music education outreach, all aimed at promoting the value of music in society. It’s a chance to connect with like-minded individuals who share a love for music, while also taking on responsibilities that support and enhance the school's music programs.
The Tri-M Music Honor Society promotes positive characteristics such as dedication, discipline, leadership, and community involvement. Members are encouraged to maintain high standards of academic and musical performance while demonstrating respect for their peers and teachers. Through active participation in music-related service projects and outreach, Tri-M members cultivate empathy, teamwork, and a sense of social responsibility. The society fosters a nurturing environment where students can grow as musicians, leaders, and responsible citizens, and it provides an opportunity to inspire others to appreciate the transformative power of music.
